Growing up in the small town of Greenwood, DE, 2023 Hamilton Scholar Alyssa Molock is a highly ambitious student – attending Sussex Technical High School – who loves to try anything at least once.
As a first-generation African American and the youngest daughter in her family, Alyssa loves to give back to her community. Her “Smiles for Seniors” campaign, a drive she initiated and is most proud of, donated hundreds of thoughtful, hand-written greeting cards to nursing homes in her county; as a former volunteer at such facilities, Alyssa fell in love with this idea of making others smile.
When it comes to extracurriculars, Alyssa believes: the more the merrier. She serves in multiple organizations, including as Vice President of the National Honor Society, VP of the National Technical Honor Society chapters, and as Secretary of Multiplying Good and Empowered Youth Initiative. Additionally, Alyssa participates as a member of the Spanish Honor Society, Science Olympiad and Key Club. Outside of school, Alyssa teaches Sunday School at her local church, where she also helps plan multiple events for the children including Easter egg hunts and game nights. In her free time, Alyssa loves to bake and listen to K-Pop.
In the summer, Alyssa volunteers at her local hospital; here, she discovered her passion for helping others and making a difference in their lives. She can’t imagine a career where she is not taking care of others; she’s studying for her Certified Nursing Aide certification and plans to spend her senior year studying and working at her local hospital. Having seen first-hand the medical issues in her family, Alyssa aspires to become the first physician in her family – and one of the few black, female doctors in the United States. It may be a long, hard road to becoming a doctor, but Alyssa knows that helping others is her calling
